The Waiting Game
So many of us are waiting. Waiting to feel ready. Waiting for someone to notice us, validate us, choose us. Waiting for the right moment, the right title, the right circumstances before we allow ourselves to step fully into who we are.
I understand that waiting. I lived it. I spent years believing that the crown, the recognition, the achievement, the external proof, would be the thing that finally made me feel worthy. That once I had it, I would feel like enough.
What I discovered is that it doesn’t work that way. No title, no achievement, no amount of applause can give you something you haven’t already decided to give yourself.
No title, no achievement, no amount of applause can give you something you haven’t already decided to give yourself.
Who Gave You Permission?
Here is a question I ask every audience I speak to: Who told you that you needed permission to be who you already are?
Most of us absorbed the message somewhere along the way, from a parent, a classroom, a culture that taught us to earn our place rather than claim it. We learned to shrink, to qualify, to wait until we had enough credentials to take up the space we were always meant to occupy.
But here is the truth: you were never meant to earn your worth. You were born with it. The work is not to acquire it. The work is to remember it, to stop letting the world talk you out of it, and to start living from it every single day.
The Decision Is Yours
Crowning yourself first is not arrogance. It is not self-promotion or ego. It is the quiet, radical act of deciding, before the stage, before the title, before anyone else weighs in, that you are worthy of the life you want to live.
It means showing up fully, even when you feel uncertain. It means speaking your truth, even when your voice shakes. It means pursuing your purpose without waiting for a committee to approve it.
The women I admire most, the ones who move through the world with genuine confidence and grace, are not the ones who have the most titles. They are the ones who decided, somewhere along the way, that they were enough. And they never looked back.
Crowning yourself first is the quiet, radical act of deciding, before the stage, before the title, that you are worthy of the life you want.
Making It a Practice
This is not a one-time decision. It is a daily practice. Some days it comes easily. Other days the old voices are loud, and you have to choose your own worth over and over again until it sticks.
Start small. Notice the moments when you minimize yourself, when you apologize for taking up space, when you downplay your accomplishments, when you wait for someone else to go first. Those are the moments to pause and choose differently.
You do not need a stage or a crown to begin. You just need the decision. Make it today. Make it again tomorrow. And keep making it until it becomes the most natural thing in the world, because it was always supposed to be.
